Homa Bay County has received a major boost in its digital transformation journey following the donation of 200 computers to public institutions by the Ministry of Information, Communications Technology (ICT) and the Digital Economy.

Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Stephen Isaboke, said the computers will be distributed through the office of Homa Bay County Woman Representative, Dr. Joyce Osogo.

He noted that the initiative, made possible through the State Department of ICT, is designed to expand access to digital services and strengthen ICT capacity in schools, community centres, and government offices.

“This donation is part of our broader plan to ensure that every county benefit from digital transformation. By equipping institutions with modern devices, we are opening up opportunities for training, innovation, and improved access to government services,” Isaboke said.

The computers are expected to play a critical role in bridging the digital divide in Homa Bay by enabling students, teachers and communities to access online learning platforms, e-government services and digital resources.

The PS emphasized that technology is now central to education, service delivery and economic growth adding that the government is determined to ensure no region is left behind.

He added that the devices will support e-learning programs, enhance ICT literacy and provide young people with the skills needed to thrive in a digital economy.

Education stakeholders in Homa Bay welcomed the donation, noting that it will transform classrooms into digital learning spaces.

Teachers will be able to integrate ICT into lessons, while students will gain exposure to online research, coding, and digital collaboration tools.

Community centres and local government offices will also benefit, with the computers enabling faster access to online services such as business registration, tax filing, and social services.

The donation aligns with Kenya’s wider digital transformation agenda, which seeks to expand ICT infrastructure, promote e-government services, and prepare the workforce for a technology-driven future.

The Ministry has been rolling out similar initiatives across counties to ensure equitable access to digital tools.

Isaboke said the government’s vision is to create a digitally empowered society where technology drives socio-economic development.

“We are committed to building a future where every Kenyan can access digital opportunities, whether in education, business, or public service. These computers are a step toward that goal,” he added.

Homa Bay County Woman Representative Dr. Joyce Osogo said that the distribution of the computers will begin immediately, with priority given to schools, vocational training centres, and community hubs.

Dr Osogo expressed optimism that the initiative will not only improve education outcomes but also inspire innovation among young people in Homa Bay.
