The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has intensified efforts to boost insurance uptake by taking its consumer awareness campaign to Narok County, where more than 1,000 residents received information on insurance products, consumer rights and claims services during the latest Insurance Open Day.
The forum, officially opened by Narok Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech, brought together over 20 insurance companies and financial sector regulators to educate residents, address consumer concerns and improve access to insurance services at the grassroots.
Koech said the initiative provides an important platform for stakeholders to discuss the growth of the insurance sector, strengthen collaboration and enhance public awareness of insurance services.
He urged residents to embrace insurance as an essential risk management tool that protects individuals, businesses and communities from unforeseen losses.
Residents interacted directly with insurers and regulators, receiving guidance on available insurance products, policyholder rights and responsibilities, claims processing and other insurance-related services.
Narok becomes the fourth county to host the Insurance Open Days after similar forums in Uasin Gishu, Meru and Makueni.
More than 5,000 people have been reached through the initiative.
The county outreach programme is part of IRA’s strategy to bridge information gaps that continue to hinder insurance penetration in Kenya.
It also enables insurers and regulators to respond to region-specific risks, including agriculture, livestock, transport, health and climate-related challenges, while strengthening consumer confidence and collaboration with county governments and local communities.
