The Government has launched Sh77- million development projects drive in Kisii aimed at transforming and boosting the county’s infrastructural outlook.
The projects include the construction of education and community infrastructure projects that is targeted at improving service delivery.
The multi-sectoral championed development projects include a Sh62 million digital and infrastructure upgrade at Bogesaka D.O.K Primary and Junior Secondary School in Nyamache.
The construction was launched by Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke in partnership with the M-Pesa Foundation Project Manager Eng. Zachary Hamptons.
The school will get modern classrooms, science and ICT laboratories constructed and will receive specialised learning equipment and high-speed fibre-optic internet connectivity through the initiative implemented under the M-PESA Foundation’s Citizens of the Future programme.
The project is expected to be completed by January 2027, positioning the rural institution as a modern learning centre equipped to support digital education.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Isaboke described the project as a milestone and an opportunity to provide future generations with better learning opportunities.
“This is a particularly special moment for me as an alumnus of the primary school because it brings back so many memories of being where these children are standing now, dreaming of what the future might hold,” Isaboke said.
“To return here today as a Principal Secretary, carrying the means to completely transform my former primary school, is the honour of a lifetime. This is where my journey started, and I want to ensure the journey for the next generation starts on an even stronger foundation,” he said.
On his part Eng. Hamptons said the investment was aimed at bridging digital and infrastructure gaps in rural schools. “We cannot build the future of our nation using yesterday’s tools.
This programme is not just about laying bricks and mortar but installing fibre-optic internet, building digital labs and equipping science rooms to ensure that we bring the digital economy directly to learners,” he said.
PS Isaboke, joined by other government officials, also raised Sh15 million towards St. Ambrose Kabeo Catholic Parish infrastructure development projects and engaged residents on government programmes under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
He attributed the increased pace of development in the region to enhanced cooperation between political leaders and government institutions, saying collaboration had created an environment for accelerated service delivery.
The PS urged leaders and government officials to remain focused on delivering services to Kenyans, saying development should take precedence over political differences.
Solicitor General Shadrack Mose called on residents to support government initiatives, noting that communities should remain engaged in national development programmes.
On the other hand, Medical Services PS Dr. Ouma Oluga encouraged residents to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying increased enrolment was critical to expanding access to healthcare services.
On his part, Kisii Governor Simba Arati praised the cooperation between the national and county governments, saying the partnership had accelerated development projects in Kisii, including markets, roads and modern stadia.
He pledged continued collaboration with the national government while calling for political tolerance.
