State speeds up land valuation to clear way for Wajir road project

Land valuation for the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HOAGDP) in Wajir County is advancing steadily as the government prepares to compensate affected property owners ahead of the commencement of road construction works.

The exercise, being conducted by the National Land Commission in collaboration with the Kenya National Highways Authority, targets properties located along the proposed road corridor.

Valuation teams are currently on the ground in Wajir town and surrounding areas, including Kutulo, identifying and documenting affected land and structures.

Officials involved in the exercise said a significant number of property owners have already been registered, with more expected as the process extends to other sections of the corridor.

The project, which is part of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development initiative, is expected to improve connectivity in northern Kenya and facilitate trade and movement of goods.

Authorities noted that the valuation exercise is a key step in ensuring fair and timely compensation to affected persons and reducing potential disputes during implementation.

They added that the process also covers informal structures and smallscale traders to ensure inclusivity.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with the valuation teams by providing the required documentation to support the process.
